The dealership that is now Northland Kia was constructed in 1978, well before Kia arrived in Canada. The dealership was originally Parson Pontiac. In 1995 Parson Pontiac was purchased by the Jack Carter group of dealerships and the name changed to Northland Pontiac Buick GMC. During General Motors’ restructuring in 2009, the Pontiac brand was discontinued and Northland Pontiac was informed they would be losing their General Motors franchise.
After many years of success with General Motors the ownership had to decide what their next step would be. They decided to see what brand would best suit the market in North West Calgary. After weighing all of their options, Kia rose to the top as the best opportunity. Kia was on a roll in 2009 and with lots of great products coming, the Carter Group knew Kia would become a major force in the Canadian Automotive landscape.
Northland Pontiac became Northland Kia in October 2009. While some long term employees did transfer to other dealerships in the Jack Carter Family, a group stayed at Northland to ensure a smooth transition to the Kia Brand while still being able to maintain General Motors vehicles.
2010 was another big year for change at Northland Kia. In May of 2010 a new Managing Partner joined Northland Kia. Robert Wills took on the leadership role using his previous experience as General Manager of Kia City to Northland make the transition from General Motors dealership to Kia dealership. 2010 also saw construction of a new showroom begin. The sales department moved into their new facility in 2011.
Since 2009, Northland Kia has seen near continuous growth in new vehicle sales. This is attributed to both their way of doing business and the improvements to the Kia product. Kia has become the best built cars in Canada according to JD Powers. Kia has also added equipment content to their line-up to ensure Kia’s are the best values on the market.
The future is also looking good for Northland Kia. Kia is continuously improving the vehicles it manufactures and is on the cutting edge of new technologies that will keep customers happy well into the future.
